WHEW...

Our June hurricane of birthdays are finally over! We are good until the 4th of July now! Speaking of the 4th.... we usually grill with lots of neighbors, but this year, 3 of our 4 closest neighbors are moving... ugh.

So I don't really know what are plans are now.  We do have a neighborhood parade every year which is always a blast! Afterwards, we meet up at the community center and have lunch while the kiddos play together!

What do you do for the 4th? do you have any great recipes to share? I love some great recipes!

Our Garden

Here in south Texas, we actually had a spring this year. We usually don't. at all. Usually, we just have fall- our mild winter, and summer, hot as hell. This year, we actually got to experience all the seasons, and it was great! Unfortunately for me, I didn't know what to do with the plants I wanted... so they were a bit later than normal. We have been getting regular tomatoes, bell peppers and cayenne pepper already though!

We will hang these to dry to add to salsa and to use for practically everything else!

Here are some of the tomato plants in my raised garden. Remember last year, when I said my husband made this for me?
I also planted lots of marigolds around the outside of the square garden to avoid pests. We don't use chemicals, and marigolds are supposed to release some sort of oil that drives bugs away. So far, so good. The only thing that is doesn't keep away is tarantulas! I posted on facebook that I saw one, I did! I don't have a picture, because, well, IT WAS A TARANTULA! I don't do spiders as big as my hand, thank you.

We also have lettuce, collards, green beans, watermelon, zucchini, cantaloupe, and more! I will update soon with more pictures!

Do you garden? I would love to hear about yours!

Twist of Dazzle - Giveaway!

Twist of Dazzle is a beautiful shop on Etsy that makes custom crosses that are truely one of a kind!

Look at these! There is such a country feel to these that I love!

You know how I love mommy businesses, and Twist of Dazzle was created by two moms that were just creating these crosses, their crafts...
Camie, one of the creators, actually had her husband cutting the wood for them in their garage! The Idea took off, and now  they have three stores across Texas, and a new wood-cutting guy! haa!

Each of the crosses from Twist of Dazzle are completely handmade, come with a hanger on the back and of course completely customizable! You can match walls, rugs, bedding sets, the possibilities are endless!

My husband would even love this one- complete in camo- his favorite color...

Here is one I know my daughter would go nuts over!

What do you think? Are you just as hypnotized as I am over these crosses? Well if so, Camie, from Twist of Dazzle has offered to host a giveaway! One reader will win their choice of any medium cross for her shop! Thank you Camie!

CSN Stores Review & Giveaway!

I have told you about how incredible CSN stores is before, but recently, I had the opportunity to try out Rachael's Ray's bubble and brown 2-piece stoneware set! In chocolate, no less! I have never tried out Rachael Ray products before, and I really feel I have been missing out... They are awesome!

Isn't it beautiful?
This stoneware set has a great design that is so easy to carry from oven to table, easy to store by stacking and obviously rest inside each other! I love how shallow the pans are, too, because it makes items cook faster, more evenly and leaves a crunchy layer on top - my favorite! The glazed interior is non-porous, and they are microwave, oven and dishwasher safe!

When I placed the order with CSN stores, I was so surprised how fast it arrived! I opened the box, and I was scared, because the pieces looked very small. However, when I used them, I was so relieved, as they held so much more than I imagined!

Here is what I used them for last night-
The bigger piece held a whole chicken, and I used the smaller one for potatoes! They turned out great, and in way less time than I am used to!

Here is my chicken, and I had plenty of room to spare!

The potatoes turned out perfectly- and had that great crunch on the top layer! yum!

Cleanup was beyond incredible as well! Usually, when I bake a whole chicken, I have to soak the pan for some time, to loosen up all the funk. While I was pouring the water into this stoneware, the funk just came right off! No really, I have never seen anything like it!

This stoneware is my new craving! I will be asking for all the matching pieces during the holidays this year- hint, hint, honey....

There is a lasagna pan I am crazy about,
a covered casserole,

a cute ramekin set,

and so much more! In the words of Rachael Ray, YUM-O!

The generous folks over at CSN stores would like to giveaway a $30 gift certificate to any of their 200+ stores! Thanks, CSN!

Corner Art Review & Giveaway

I recently stumbled across corner art, which is wooden decor, that my daughter is now in love with!

Corner art offers 12 different designs, and required no hooks, hangers, screws, no nada! These cut-outs sit perfectly perched on corner molding! Each one has a unique poem written on the back as well!

Corner Art was created in South Africa, with the original intention of a craft young girls could make to sell to tourists. They were created from paper mache, however, they never made it to the market.

The girls wanted to take home their creations and show them off in their rooms. Corner Art took that great idea, and promised to help out those very same girls. Corner Art donates 5% of their profits to charity- The St. George's home for girls - which helps create a safe haven for girls in need. They also support the Foreclosure Angel Foundation, which was created by Marilyn Mock, who bought her neighbor's house during foreclosure, and sold it back to her at a reduced price! (what a great neighbor)

I was given the opportunity to test one out, and I was blown away! Thanks, corner art! My daughter picked out Sydney, the monkey, and she loves it! She actually tells him "good-night"...

He can be found dangling from her closet door, as if he is ready to play! I love that it doesn't take up much room, and won't end up being drug into the living room, etc.! It adds a perfect amount of personal touch to the walls! The cut-out is made of durable pine wood, so durable, that my lousy mailman couldn't even harm it! These are beautifully painted, with bright vivid colors, that really stand out!

The poem on the back of Sydney, says, "We'll jump on your bed, swing from the doors, if your mom walks in, we're just doing chores" You can't get much cuter than that!

Here are some of my other favorites-

"Stiltz"

"Courage"

"Waffles"

"Elf"

These are such a simple, ingenious little way to add a punch of fun to your walls without ruining them! Why didn't I think of this great idea? Without a doubt, some little girls halfway around the world were on the right track in helping develop such a great idea!

Melissa, from Corner Art, has generously offered two readers of One Frugal Lady a chance to win a design of your choice!

Little Bits Of Joy- Review and Giveaway!- Giveaway has ended-

I just found an online shop called Little Bits of Joy! I am going nuts, I love hair bows for my daughter, and these are some of the cutest ones ever!  My daughter has a major addiction to hair bows, and at just 3, she will make sure her hair bow matches her outfit and that bow is perfectly rested on her noggin!

Little bits of joy was created by a stay-at-home-mom, whose husband is a Marine. She had the light bulb moment of "Those bows are so cute, I bet I could make that!" - I am sure most of us moms (yes, and dads) have had those moments before!  With lots of encouragement from friends and family, this one actually turned into a wonderful little shop! I love stories like this, because it always makes dreams sound so much like a reality! Oh, and of course you know I love mommy-businesses, too!

All the bows and clips at little bits of joy are made of grosgrain ribbon and are heat-sealed to prevent fraying as well. There is a huge selection, and of course you don't find what you are looking for, it can be custom made!
Here are some of my favorite picks-

Adorable fish bows- I have never seen anything like these!

ladybug clippies! CUTE!

Set of two blue and green tuxedo bows- precious!

Adorable jeweled flower bow

The support our troops 4th of July bow-

There is even a hair bow board to hold all these bows and clippies! I love this shop- it is like taking a kid to the candy store... I could get lost!
